This piece was created for the group exhibition NET:ETH Going out of the Darkness which addressed the intergenerational trauma caused by Canada’s Indian Residential School system. Children who were caught speaking their native language in these “schools” were often punished - including having pins stuck in their tongues. Inuujunga can be translated as “I am Inuk” as well as “I am a person.”
